PLEASE! Symantec Email Proxy affect files?

The symantec email proxy has been the bane of my life for the past 2 weeks. I am going to buy an external hard drive and wipe my comp. I'm just wondering, before i transfer, if anyone knows if this virus affects any of the music/doc/pic files? any help would be greatly appreciated.
