System 32 at startup and "dwn"/"down" pop up at startup

Expand Post »
I'd appreciate any help you could give me.

-Every startup the "system 32" folder pops up.
-Occasionally, a pop up window that says "dwn" will come up at startup w/ an "ok" box. If you click OK, then it says "down" w/ an OK box.

*This computer is a laptop: Dell: Inspiron: 5000e
*Windows XP Pro w/ service pack 1

I ran hijackthis. Again, thanks for any help.

Here is the HJT log:

Re: System 32 at startup and "dwn"/"down" pop up at startup

Unzip HJT into it's own permanent folder before doing anything in order for it to create backups. (Not a temporary folder or the desktop & not directly on your hard drive). Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7F17EEFC-114F-C6A5-DFEF-04BEA660F18E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\boizmpqw.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ibbjwhgx] C:\WINDOWS\nnonmoqo.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [w] C:\WINDOWS\System32\itvoqp.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [m] C:\WINDOWS\System32\sqlels.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zzb] c:\WINDOWS\System32\zzb.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [] c:\WINDOWS\System32\
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [zzb] c:\WINDOWS\System32\zzb.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [] c:\WINDOWS\System32\

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete

C:\WINDOWS\nnonmoqo.exe< file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\itvoqp.exe< file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\sqlels.exe< file
c:\WINDOWS\System32\zzb.exe< file

Reboot normally & Go here for an on-line scan & set it to autoclean for you.

Re: System 32 at startup and "dwn"/"down" pop up at startup

I did as you said and the System 32 folder doesn't come up anymore at startup.

The online scan found and deleted "TROJ GOLID.A" Is there anything else I need to do other than let the online scan delete it? Should that fix the dwn/down popup? (It hasn't come up since the fix).

Thanks again for help...it's much appreciated.

Re: System 32 at startup and "dwn"/"down" pop up at startup

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\windows\SYSTEM\blank.htm

If the online scan cleaned it up, all is good.

After something like this it is a good idea to flush the system restore. Please note that after doing so, all previous restore points will be lost.

How to flush system restore.

Also check the link in my Sig re infection.

Re: System 32 at startup and "dwn"/"down" pop up at startup

Extreme360. Might i suggest you start a thread of you own instead of hijacking this one !!do the following but when you post back create a new topic of your own !

Might I suggest Ad-Aware and Spybot

Download the latest version of Ad-Aware at ADAWARE

Download SPYBOT

How to setup Ad-Aware and Spy-Bot S&D
http://www.zerosrealm.com/scanning.php

And after that, please do the following:

Download 'Hijack This!'.HERE

Unzip (extract) it to a folder of its own.Like c:\HJT\hijackthis.exe , Then Doubleclick HijackThis.exe (in the new folder), and hit "Scan".
When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, then Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here. for hijackthis, most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

reboot computer and post a new hijackthis log
