Hijack This Log. Desktop & Start Menu Shortcuts won't work

When I try and click on my desktop icons on my desktop or my start menu they will not open. It just refreshes the page and everything disappears. I have run adware and spybot to eliminate minor infections but still these do not work. Here is my highjackthis log for evaluation, thanks:

If the state of your system allows:

You will need to close/quit all web browser programs and disconnect from the Internet for some of the following, so you should print out the following instructions or save them into a text file with Notepad.


* Uninstall the BSecure popup blocker (at least temporarilly), as the following HJT log entry indicates that a component of that software is missing or corrupt:
O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'inetcntrl.dll' missing


* Close all open instances of Internet Explorer!


* Run another HijackThis scan, put a check in the boxes to the left of the following entries, and then click the "Fix checked" button. Close HJT once it completes the fixes:

* Click on the "Run..." option in your Start menu. In the "Open:" box of the resulting window, type "cmd" (omit the quotes) and hit Enter. This will bring up a DOS window.

* At the DOS prompt, type the following command and hit Enter:
netsh winsock reset catalog

* Close the DOS window.


* Open the Event Viewer utility in your Administrative Tools control panel and look through your System and Application logs for entries flagged with "Error" or "Warning", especially those whose time-stamps coincide with the occurence of the problem(s), or those that mention Explorer.exe or Internet Explorer.

* Double-clicking on such an entry will open a properties window with more detailed information on the error; post the details from a representative sample of some of the different error messages (please don't post duplicates of a given entry, or flood us with the entire contents of the logs).

To post the details:
In the Properties window of a given entry, click on the button with the graphic of two pieces of paper on it; the button is at the right of the window just below the up arrow/down arrow buttons. You won't see anything happen when you click the button, but it will copy all of the details to the Windows clipboard. You can then paste the details into your next post here.

Excellent! Thank you for your time and advice. As of right now all my icons are in working order and I will no longer become angry everytime the thing refreshes from clicking. I scanned through the event viewer but most of the errors and warnings were from useless items. If I need to post some of them I will but I figured since I fixed the problem it would be ok. Thanks again for your work!

Given that things are working now, there's no need to post the Event Viewer details as far as I can see.

However, if you want to make sure that there are no hidden "leftovers" from the prior infections (which were indicated in the "Trusted Range" log entries), you may want to download AVG's free anti-spyware program, or perform a few of these free online scans:
