can't get rid of malware (HijackThis log inside)

Expand Post »
I have some sort of spyware/malware installed, and I can't get rid of it. I have run spybot S&D and ad-aware6, both updated with latest dat, uninstalled the bridge that was installed before, and deleted the bridge.dll registry entry that was causing a rundll / bridge.dll error to pop up everytime I boot. I also have updated McAfee, and it kept finding viruses for a while, but my comp seems to be clean now... the last few days, whenever I scan with McAfee, it finds nothing.

Also, when i first started having these problems, I could SOMETIMES still access websites - it would open a browser window to Golden Casino every 10 minutes or so, but I could also open up websites like yahoo.com sometimes.
But now, I cannot open ANY websites - not the goldencasino it was sending me to, not the easy-search.biz site it trys to set my homepage to... nothing. But i DO still have internet access - i can still successfully update my ad-aware dat.

Here is my hijack this log (note that whenever I FIX the easy-search.biz entries, they come right back in a few minutes):

Re: can't get rid of malware (HijackThis log inside)

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://easy-search.biz
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://easy-search.biz

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\suxiagp.exe< file
C:\WINDOWS\runwin32.exe< file

Reboot normally.

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the bold below into a new text file. Save it as URLRepair.reg (Change the 'Save As Type' to 'All Files'). Save it in C:\

REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
"{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}"=""

Locate it (in C:\) and double-click on it (launch it). You'll recieve a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer yes and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Download Registrar Lite from here:
http://www.resplendence.com/download/reglite.exe

Put it in its own folder. You may want to keep this program. It is an excellent free, registry editor.

Copy and paste the follow text into the address bar, then hit 'Go':
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks

In the pane on the right are the values associated with that key.
We want to remove this one>
_{1C78AB3F-A857-482e-80C0-3A1E5238A565}
Notice the underscore at the start.

Right click on it and select delete.
If you get a confirmation question, respond OK then close out of the program.

Post a new log when all the above is done plz.

If easy search comes back you may have to delete the entries in safe mode.

Re: can't get rid of malware (HijackThis log inside)

First of all, thanks for your fast response, I'm impressed.

I was able to complete all the steps you said except for the last one.

I did not find the registry key that you told me to delete. These are the only listings found under URLSearchHooks. I figure maybe I should delete the bottom one? I won't do so until you tell me to.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks\\(default)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks\\{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}

Re: can't get rid of malware (HijackThis log inside)

That last one is a legitimate file, that is why I had you do the reg fix for it. Most of the ones with the underscore at the start or end are bad ones & HJT cannot fix them, that is why the use of reglite. You may have noticed in the HJT log that this particular entry _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} has the underscore, meaning it had been altered by something.
If you wish to post your latest log, you are welcome to.
