iexplore.exe takes up to 98% cpu time

Expand Post »
i have search the forums and although this problem is nothing new, i have not found any solution to it. If anybody knows the solution please reply.

the problem started with ie6 and i have downloaded and installed ie7 in attempt to fix it but the problem is still there. as it was suggested on some forums i tried to change settings like disabling phishing filters or disabling add-ons. nothing worked. the following is the latest HJT logfile. If anyone can help I would really appreciate that.

Re: iexplore.exe takes up to 98% cpu time

I have run LSPFix but IE's still at 98% cpu time. I have noticed that it yeilds to cpu intense apps like BitComet, but given the chance it takes all the cpu time and runs at 98%. I have completed full scan with Kaspersky AV, and MicroTrend online virus scan for what it worth.
Here is the new HJT log:

Re: iexplore.exe takes up to 98% cpu time

after having a closer look at TCPView i have noticed that IE does use TCP protocol when establishing connection to the site, but after connection is established it drops TCP and uses only UDP

here is TCPView snapshot just after i tried to open new webpage

Re: iexplore.exe takes up to 98% cpu time

And on that note, i went out of my depth..
All i can see is that you established a connection [do you have a mail account with your IP?], and that then a webpage loaded and your connection just sat there idly with the page displayed. I see no more iexplore traffic. That is not much use to you, I'm afraid. Does Task manager show even after the page loads Iexplore.exe at 98% CPU time? Beats me.
HELP!

Re: iexplore.exe takes up to 98% cpu time

exactly, it's strange. it's not a virus or spyware, at least i can't detect any and it's still at 98% even after the page is loaded. i guess i would use firefox from now on, so much for microsoft ... shouldn't they take care of things like that? oh well, thanks for the help

Re: iexplore.exe takes up to 98% cpu time

TCP is a protocol that guarantees the accuracy of interchanged data [accuracy is verified by two-way checks], whereas UDP is unchecked - you ask for, you get a data transmission in reply. Once a UDP page is transmitted to you there is not necessarily any more traffic betweeen the two sites. So IE should go quiet.
Go back to that same site and get Process Explorer; set it up with two panels, in the lower panel show DLL's. If you then lclick Iexplore.exe you will get a list of DLL's involved with it - they should all be microsoft signed, plus maybe a Sun java one and ones from any site blocker you may run, and toolbars or browser helpers [I don't use any toolbars or helpers]. See if you can see any duds. The only other thing i can suggest is that you temporarily at least remove your toolbars/helpers. Yahoo, acrobat, bit comet. You could remove the installshield updater also - totally unnecessary to have it. These two:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSPM Startup] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\UPDATE~1\ISUSPM.exe -startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSScheduler] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe" -start
These two are RAM wasters also:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
...and this one - you can start it when you need to know if the sun is shining.. :
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WeatherWatcher] C:\Program Files\Weather Watcher\ww.exe

Say how you get on, please.
One other thing - I dunno if you use Adobe Acrobat professionally [paid up] or just use it to read docs.... I was astonished when i noticed how it bloats when installed, a 22MB dl becomes a 105MB behemoth when it hits your HD. I dumped it [ because it's slow with graphics, crashes and wipes your dl's....], scraped it carefully outta my sys cos the uninstaller leaves about 30MB behind, and got Foxit. Small, clean, fast, does everything better. A 2.5Mb dl, 5MB on the HD when installed.
