Adware on system tray, Can't get rid of it (revised)

Expand Post »
Sorry forgot to include the HijackThis script in my previous post. Here is the repost.

Hi All,

This is a very annoying adware.

I have an icon that sits on the system tray nex to the clock. This icon changes from a ?-icon to an X-icon every one second. It loads whenever the Windows starts, and pops up a callout every 5 min reminding me that there are some spyware on my system and need to go to some website to download some program to remove them.

I have tried everything I can: Ad-aware, spyware docotor, spybot-SD, spy sweeper, Hijackthis .... Each of these programs fixes something, but none of them can this problem. I am puzzled. It looks like a real tough adware to remove.

Any idea will be appreciated.

Frustrated,
D

just fix it a minute ago by myself. It was the notorious VirusPrecto Pro thing. Thanks to the HJT v2, which gave me a clue of a suspicious .dll file.

Re: Adware on system tray, Can't get rid of it (revised)

You have a Vundo infection.

Please download VundoFix.exe
to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HijackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above
instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when
VundoFix appears at reboot.

hi diaomaohui and all,

I'm encountering the same spyware issue on my pc. I too have installed Adware and Ad-aware and Spybot and they have corrected most of the problems except the icon you mention in the system tray. What dll file did you remove to fix it? Greatly appreciate the help!
