Help! I cannot get IE to open to any page. I can browse the net through outlook, but am fully unable to go anywhere using Internet Explorer. Here's what it says:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

I have read a few posting regarding issues that resemble this and notice that a Hijack THis script is needed so here it is:

Re: Page cannot be displayed on IE

Hi cannonfire- welcome to TechTalk

Your problem is most likely spyware related, but we deal with those issues in our Security forum, so I'm moving this thread there now so that our security experts can examine your HJT log.

Re: Page cannot be displayed on IE

Hey again,

Have a look through the threads in the Security forum (and the links in my sig file below as well) for info on downloading and using the "Spyware" detection and removal tools we recommend.

Your HJT log does indicate that you have a few "unwanted guests" on your system, but it's dinner time in my end of the world, so I'll leave the log analysis to crunchie; he should be online in a few hours.

Re: Page cannot be displayed on IE

Thanks for the advice. To date i have already tried Ad Aware, CW Shredder, Spybot, Window Washer, and Spy sweeper in addition to my Norton's antivirus and firewall. NOthing has worked so far (though it could possibly be user error :>)

I have also looked into the threads from previous entries and honestly, not sure if i would be taking advice for the right issue (make sense?) I just don't want to mess things up even more than they are right now.

Anyways....I will wait to hear from "crunchie". Thanks again!!!

Re: Page cannot be displayed on IE

Hi. First of all you need to update hijackthis to version 1.98.1 Run hijackthis & go to *Config\Misc Tools\Check for update on-line*. Remove 1.97 from the folder it is in & replace it with 1.98.1.

Unzip HJT into it's own permanent folder before doing anything in order for it to create backups. (Not a temporary folder or directly on the desktop (in a folder on the desktop is fine) & not directly on your hard drive). Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://youriskalka.com/index.htm

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [apixy.exe] C:\WINDOWS\apixy.exe
O4 - Global Startup: winlgn.exe

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: MarketBrowser (HKLM)

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found:

C:\Program Files\SpyHunter-folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkeq.exe-file
C:\WINDOWS\apixy.exe-file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntle32.exe-file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\NDrv.exe-file

Go to the global startup folder & delete the winlgn.exe file if there. You should find the folder here; C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

Reboot normally after doing the above then post a fresh log please.

Spyhunter removed because; http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Try the PurityScan uninstaller too.

Re: Page cannot be displayed on IE

OK..so far so good! At least i can use my IE!! Yeah! I did notice, however, that winlgn.exe was detected by Webroot Spy Sweeper upon booting up in normal mode. I did go into C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. while in safe mode, but i didn;t see it there. I re-looked while in "Normal" mode as well, and still did not see it. Either way, here's a fresh log:

Re: Page cannot be displayed on IE

Still running the old hijackthis too. It's still not in it's own folder either. Update Adaware but do not run it yet.

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1B7D753B-1981-4bd2-91F3-6D055EE113A0} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\NDrv.dll

Download About:buster from http://malwarebytes.biz/AboutBuster.zip and unzip it to your desktop.

Click here for instructions on how to boot into safe mode.

Boot up in safe mode.

Run About:buster, click OK, Start, and OK again to start the scan. Let it scan and fix everything it finds.

Still in safe mode, do a full system scan with Adaware. When the scan is finished select *next* & place a check in the boxes to the left of what is found & click *next* again. Let it delete those entries.

Reboot your computer in normal mode. Post another log.
