IE has encountered an error and must close

Expand Post »
Every since I upgraded to Windows XP SP2 I've had problems with IE 6 error message: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must now close."
I am given the option of sending an error report or not. Then the browser closes. The error message appears when I am trying to navigate from one web to another using links. Sometimes the error message doesn't appear, the browswer simply shuts down. This doesn't happen at every web site, but it does happen on quite a few.

Example: I tried to pay a utility bill online. The utility site has a link to a Speedpay site. Clicking on that link once does nothing - twice shuts down the browser without a message. It is not the website itself - as I used my wife's pc and had no problem.

I am using Earthlink as my ISP. My security program is McAfee 6.0. My OS is XP Media.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
