IE6 stops loading from windows update

:mad: Running ME and just reinstalled ME for about the 10th time (was originally 98). IE version was 5.50.4134.0100IS.
I Hit the Windows update site and found 1 critical update - IE6. Dowloaded OK. Configuration stops at around 97% complete and asks me to start again because it failed. Have repeated many times with no success. Occasionally got Thunk32 failure message in a window with title bar "W95INF32.DLL". Any ideas?
