Re: wupdater not responding

Download & instal Adaware from http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=506
& update it B4 scanning.
In settings under 'scanning,' have it set to
'scan within archives,'
'scan active processes,'
'scan registry,'
'deepscan registry'
'scan my IE Favourites for banned URL's,'
'scan my host's file.'
Also in tweaks under 'cleaning engine' set it to 'Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion.'
Remove what it finds by placing a check in the box to the left of the object.
Download & instal Spybot S&D from http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download Update it B4 scanning.
After the scan is complete, have spybot fix everything marked RED.
On the page that first opens when you start Spybot there is an option to immunise, you should do this. In the immunise section there is also a link to download Spywareblaster. Download that & you can keep it updated by selecting the same link that you use to download it.

Re: wupdater not responding

Thank you

I installed Adaware and Spybot; it scanned my system and deleted everything that it found. It solved my first problem.

I still get the same message when I shutdown

Backtrack Monitor

Fatal Error 8205---cannot take snapshot

How do I fix this?

Backtrack Monitor is part of the McAfee packages QuickClean and Uninstaller that seems to perform a function similar to Roxio GoBack. It would appear to be a configuration error. I have not used this utility myself. You may wish to try the configuration options or to uninstall/reinstall the program. Here's a PDF with more information.

Re: wupdater not responding

Thank you for responding, but I don't understand your fix.

I don't have McAfee QuickClean installed on my machine.

But you must have some piece of McAfee software installed to get that error message. Look at your Install/Remove Programs panel and look at the running processes in the Task Manager to see what it is.

Re: wupdater not responding

I uninstalled/reinstalled McAfee VirusScan. That didn't solve the problem. I still get the same message when I shutdown.

Well, something has to be running -- error messages like this don't appear out of nowhere! Keep looking.

Re: wupdater not responding

I completely removed McAfee VirusScan from my computer, and I still get the Backtrack Monitor message.

What else can be causing this problem?
