Windows XP Pro Automatic Updates

I reformatted my laptop yesterday. Automatic updates are enabled, and supposed to check for updates every 3:00 am. But it hasn't download any until now. But when I try the manual update through Microsoft's web site, all updates were downloaded and installed successfully. May I ask why is my automatic updates now working? Please help..

did you properley reformat, or did you install over?

in-place upgrades and repairs currently break the automatic updates feature. Dont worry if this is the case though, as there is a fix.

I deleted the windows partition so that setup will reformat the partition before installing windows. I started from scratch..
