I do not know why your sys will not boot fom your recovery cd... but perhaps you can borrow someone's XP installation cd and try that? This is what you need to do when you can finally boot from a cd...

if you can slave the drive save your stuff and format it then reinstall XP. while the drive is slaved see if there is a second partition. if there is then you should be able to run the recovery option for your PC. i also notice the other poster told you to change your bios boot order and you have not responded if you did.

when you manually copy your goodies what happens does it also give you the error massage if not than you can copy your goodies manually
