bios cant find hard drive

i have an asus a8v deluxe motherboard, my problem is that when i enter bios my hard disk is not shown thus i cannot format windows
any help would be greatly appreciated

A little more info ,like what size HD,How long has it been in this board ,is this a new to you ,MB and HD ???????????????????? Why do you want to format

Is it A IDE or SATA drive

You mention you wish to format Windows. Is this because it's stopped working? If it's stopped working, and BIOS can no longer detect your hard drive, it's most likely because the hard drive has failed.

Change the jumpers on the back of the hard drive, Little plastic clip on the pins.
If its new it will be set to cable select. Might want to move it to Slave to prevent any compatability problems. If that does not work, set it to Primary.
