C drive odd name

My C drive thinks it is called C:\Documents and Settings\Mike Swindlehurst> can anyone tell me why?

What do you mean it thinks it c:\documents setting ,
,were is it written C:\ documents settings ect ect

Sorry

At the command prompt I cannot get just C only C:\Docs etc I can get D for my other hard drive.If I enter D: after the command prompt I get
D:\> if I enter C: I get c:\docs etc.

just go to your command prompt and type "cd.." and then again "cd.."( without inverted comas) until you get your c drive alone.

Or, even more simply... if you're at c:\Documents and settings\User\My Documents, or some really long path, you can simply type

cd \

and that will take you to the root of C:
