Computer will not boot

Once I turn on the computer it goes to a black screen to were I choose to boot in "safe mode" Once I choose the "safe mode' the computer acts like its going to boot up but it just brings me back to the same screen. I have no idea to what to do next. Please help.

When did this start?
Try last known good configuration

Do you have your XP cd?

It happened about a month ago, just tried it again yesterday and the same thing happn. No I do not have a xp card

Cant do much without access to an OS install cd

When you get the tart in safe mode? you can go to the other options there using the up/down on the keyboard. one of them says

"Try last known good configuration"

did you select that option and try it?
