Mouse Hesitation Problems

I have an HP Mediacenter computer with .99 RAM. Earlier this week my mouse began having hesitation problems. I've checked for viruses and other than a Dropper which is now taken care of it found nothing. I read a post here from 2006 that said Java could be causing my problem. Around the same time the problem began I got a popup on my startup menu (bottom right corner) saying I needed to upgrade my Java. I upgraded the Java today as the 2006 post suggested but the problem is persisting. It isn't the mouse as I've had this issue before and it was caused by Java but I don't remember how it got fixed. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall Java or what??? Please help

CPU Usage is running between 50 to 54% most of the time regardless of what I am doing.

I've never seen software cause a mouse problem

I only mentioned Java because it was on a thread on here from 2 years ago and the tech said the mouse hesitation was caused by an old version of Java conflicting with a newer version.

I don't know what else to consider. It acts like something is running that is interfering with the mouse. Like the mouse has become low priority to the computer. I've tried multiple things but nothing seems to help.

Is it a wireless mouse? bluetooth, or 2.4GHZ one? Move cordless phones away....

It's not wireless or bluetooth and there are no phones near my computer or any other electronic devices.

May I assume then that it is the old scroll ball type underneath? If so, open it up and drop out the ball, use your fingernail or similar to scrape dust, grease, banana skins off the two small rollers [the gunge appears as a dark ring, almost looking like it should be there...]. For cursor movement most mice use the default Windows driver, and it is a good one.

Gerbil: I think it's some kind of laser mouse but not wireless. Has a red light and an eye on the bottom. I cleaned it as that was the first thing I thought of. But it didn't help. Again it acts like something is interfering with the mouse, like the mouse has suddenly become low priority to the computer. Kim

I wonder if it's your mousing surface. Optical mice don't like shinny, mettalic,or see through glass desk tops. Do you have a mouse pad? If not try a magazine or piece of paper.

What brand, model, Kim? Java has nothing to do with mice. What process is using so much of your CPU time?

Firstly please give us a brief description of your mouse like... Manufacturer, Optical or not... wired/wireless, USB/PS/2 .... Antivirus..etc if you can reply with these we definitely try to find a solution for you.

Problem solved and it wasn't the mouse. I have a Hewlett Packard Media Center computer and the ehrecvr.exe was bogging down my CPU processor (apparently this is a common problem). I went to www.cole2k.net and downloaded the advanced codec pack and that corrected the ehrecvr.exe problem which is no longer bogging down my CPU and the mouse is now working fine. So thank you for all your time on this matter and I hope others with a Media Center computer having the same issue will be helped by this thread. Kim

Problem was solved. It was MediaCenter causing the problem. A server was clogging the CPU. I downloaded a fix which I posted on here but it's not showing up but it fixed the problem. Again it wasn't the mouse it was a problem with MediaCenter itself. Thanks for your time and attention to this matter. Kim
