speed problem

I have recently formatted my hard drive and re-installed windows XP home edition because i felt that i had slowed my notebook down with too many programs. However it seems that it has been slower since i did this!
Whenever i drag a window round the desktop or scroll down a page, whatever i am dragging or scrolling down jumps and distorts until i stop.
i will be grateful for any advice offered!

After you reinstalled XP, did you reinstall all the motherboard drivers?

I think you didnt install the video card driver .... cuz when I do a clean install of xp and dont install the video card driver ... I get jerky graphics.
