can't update window because of active x

i tries today to update my windows xp home and it siad that because of my security setting active x is prohibited to run this page, also i got a new hp psc 2110 printer and my xp can not detect it

Right click on Internet Explorer on your desktop and choose Properties. When Internet Properties appears, click on the Security tab. Choose the "Internet" zone with the globe logo. Click on Default Level. Click the Apply button. Then click on the Custom Level button and make sure that ActiveX is enabled.

As far as your printer goes, it is a USB printer, connected via a parallel/printer port ??
