error -- Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services

Expand Post »
Hello all. I was wondering if anyone has had this error and knew how to fix it. I searched (this forum and others) and tried all of the suggestions, but still no luck.

When I start up my computer and log onto Windows, I get the following error:

"Generic Host Process for Win 32 Services Encountered a Problem and needed to close"

The time of this error is always during the last shutdown of Windows, not the current startup. I have checked extensively for viruses and spyware, installed the latest drivers for all of my devices (all WHQL certified), and still I get this error almost every time I start up my machine.

I should mention that prior to seeing this error I did 2 things (both on the same boot):
  1. Disabled 2 contollers in the BIOS which I am not using. (Since then I have tried booting my PC with them enabled with the latest drivers installed and disabled again, still with the same error.)
  2. Windows auto-update just stopped in the middle of downloading. I then went to the Windows update site and manually downloaded the update and installed.
Since doing those things (on the same boot), I keep getting the error. I'm sure it's related to one of them, but I don't know how.

Below is the output of the event viewer for this error:

I should also mention that sometimes I get an Data Execution Prevention notice popup concerning the "Generic Host Process..." error message, but not always. It does not matter if I add this process to the exception list for DEP. I do have an Intel processor with the Execute Disable bit functionality.

What could be the problem? Can you please help?
Thank you.
