Windows HOSTS file

hi guys, what are the uses of hosts file in windows? normally, i just use it to trick users to block some sites on their workstation.. but is there any other use aside from blocking sites? any input is greatly appreciated... ;)

Yes there is. Like if you have a loooong URL to your site/page, then you can add it to the host. Then simply you write to the browser a word like calendar and it will redirect it to the calendar page/site. Basically similar use but in reverse way as you wrote.

Similar use can be for ftp. You add to the hotst ftp, ftp://[ip]: [port] and simply writting to the browser word FTP would redirect you to the ftp site. Quite usefull if you like command line more then mouse :twisted:
