Removable storage drives cannot be read

Expand Post »
I am operating XP Pro and recently reinstalled the system from a disk. Everything seemed fine except that the computer will not read from any of the removable storage drives, floppy, cd rom, or DVD. These drives are recognized by Windowx Explorer and My Computer, and Device Manager shows them as working properly. I have tried removing and reinstalling each of them, makes no difference. When I insert an appropriate disk in each of them the response is to tell me to insert a disk. Removing and reinserting the disk gives the same response. Instinctively I feel this must be a software glitch in something like Windows Explorer which affects all three drives but I can find no answer. Can anyone give me some advice.
