Missing/Wrong boot file

Hi,

I couldn't find my boot.ini file on my system so i created another one and saved it to the root of my C drive. I then rebooted my system and I can't get access as the boot.ini file i created seems to be wrong. I'm also getting the below error message during boot up:-

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\system32\hal.dll
Please re-install a copy of the above file

Can anyone help me with this?

if your drive c: is not a NTFS, you can ues DOS to start your system and edit the boot.ini file. of couse you have to be sure the problem is on the boot.ini
