When requested to update windows xp, I clicked to install the same. What I got was a permanent fixture on my desktop "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting. This copy of Windows did not pass genuine Windows validation. Over and above the desktop goes black in colour immediately after starting.
Ask for genuine Microsoft software". This and a five pointed star!

I got windows xp loaded, when I purchased the computer. Is there any way I can remove this ugly 'fixture' from my tabletop.
Thanks, manitm

Ring Microsoft and explain your situation. They may give you a genuine key if you can prove you purchased the PC from a retail or authorised outlet.

Purchase a valid Microsoft key.
