WMP suddenly stopped working

While attempting to burn a CD from my hard drive, my WMP froze up. When I clicked on "start burn", the WMP began "inspecting" the first track only to freeze up in the process. I had spent 2 hours compiling a CD for my Dad for Father's Day, and now I can't even get WMP to burn the tracks. (I've burned many CD's and have never had this happen).

Later, when I simply tried to play an audio file, there was no volume. I checked the volume controls, and everything was in the proper positions. Yes, my speakers were on and plugged in. Everything was working fine earlier today.

Someone suggested uninstalling WMP and reinstalling, but when I went to my programs list, WMP was nowhere to be found.

What has happened? Thanks for the suggestions.

Download media player 10 and install that. It should overwrite the current WMP on your system.

If you have no luck, post any error messages relating to WMP in the application log of event viewer.
