Computer does not detect modem and does not show in device manager

Expand Post »
I am trying to get online and now the computer is not detecting the modem. I have a Dell Dimension DIM4300S, Pentium(R) 4 CPU. System is Microsoft Windows XP 2002. I have check the Device Manager and there is not a modem listed. I have checked the Phone and Modem options and in the Modems tab there is a modem listed, but reads not present. The computer has been on line before and I believe it has a virus. This is not my computer, but a co-worker so I'm not sure of too much history. Any information would be great. Thanks.

Re: Computer does not detect modem and does not show in device manager

Try using another PCI slot as the first few are on the lower COM ports (1 & 2) if its a five slot machine use slot 4 or 5 if its a three slot use slot 3 as these are on com ports 3 4 & 5 and do not have clashes with other com devices
