ABIT IC7 G "CMOS Checksum error" and "CPU has been changed or is unworkable"

Hi,
My computer, Configuration: 2.6 GHz Pentium 4 800 FSB, Abit IC7 G Motherboard, 512 Mb DDR 400, Abit Siluro FX5200 DT 128Mb Graphics Card, has been having problems with freezing.

I flashed the BIOS and the first time I got the Message "CMOS Checksum error - Defaults loaded". The computer was working fine up until the first restart. The message changed to "CPU has been changed or unworkable - Check CPU Soft Menu".

THe BIOS is set at optimised defaults and I know how to switch the warning off from the BIOS but I think it is connected to my problem and since I have not overclocked my PC I do not see why this should happen...

Any help would be mostly appreciated.

just curious,was the flash need to fix another problem of did you just do if for the sake of doing it !
I have never flashed such a new machine but i know that the older ones on the first boot after the flash you are to go into the bios and set defaults ,and save changes ,before booting into windows .i this maybe the reason for the cmos checksum error

The reason behind the first flash was that it wasn't recognising the Processor since it was quite new. THe second flash was carried out because my computer kept on freezing. However, the thing that I do not remember is if I set the defaults before running windows.

I shall give it a shot again. Thanks for the prompt reply.

Ok tried that too, and no luck. I also spoke to Abit and told me that the BIOS chip was probably faulty.

The answer was a new MSI 875P Neo FIS2R Motherboard which has solved all problems and made my cpu faster...

Too bad because I had such a good impression of ABIT !!!

it like with other companies you don't want to buy the cheapest modles abit is a good company upgrading bios is tricky if you put the wrong bios you can screw up the board that is why you make sure that you know what you are doing

And is also why you only flash it with new bios version if the new one has a fix for a problem you are having .not just for the sake of flashing it !:)

Well, the ABIT IC7 G was definitely not the cheepest model, actually it was the second most expensive with an 875P Chipset on it!!! The flash of the BIOS as I said as well was carried out to solve my freezing problems. It was done according to ABIT instructions and when I spoke to the ABIT support they told me it was the right step to do. Thanks for the responses though.

I get the below message when I log on, the full message continues with Please re-enter CPU Settings in the CMOS setup and remember to save before quit!. If I hit F1 it continues and boots fine and everything seem to work, I can hit DEL to ener setup. How do I get rid of this?

I just upgraded the bios on my abit IC7-G.
I forgot to do one thing in the instructions from abit which led me to have the same problem.
Then I turned off the power and unplugged the computer before proceeding, just as the instructions said.
"Switch off the power supply unit or pull off the power cord. There is a CCMOS jumper near the battery . Change the jumper position from default 1-2 to 2-3 for one minute to discharge the CMOS data, and then put it back to default 1-2. Switch on the power supply unit or pull in the power cord. Press the power-on button to boot up system. If it works, hit "Del" key to enter the BIOS setup page to do correct settings."
Then I wanted to go back into the bios and set up the motherboard the way I wanted it to run just as I had done when innitially setting up this computer!
PS: It is a great motherboard!
