External Hard Drive Copy Problems

Expand Post »

Hi There

I have an external 160GB HD USB connected to my PC,

Im in the process of backing up all my music files (WAV & MP3)
from my PC onto my External HD.

I have 43GB to copy over, but when i drag and drop from my PC to the External it only copies a few GB then freezes and the blue screen eventually comes up saying "Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer, if this is the first time you have seen this message please restart e.t.c".

So i thought maybe im trying to copy too much data in one go so ive been copying folder by folder, say 1 or 2GB at a time but i still get the problem.

The strange thing is when i used the External HD to back up data from my other PC i had no problems at all.

ANyone have any idea why this would happen and how to resolve it??

Much Appreciated

Re: External Hard Drive Copy Problems

I think its your RAM sticks that are at fault. Try replacing them with known working modules...
