Strange blank WinXP Login error message ...

HI,
I am new to this forum and, though I have checked the FAQ and skimmed the threads, I have not seen this issue before. On WinXP Home SP1, I get a blank error message right after login with no text but the standard MS yellow symbol and a pair of yes/no buttons. I have searched the web for anyone else discussing the issue and no luck. I have also scanned for viruses/trojans/spyware but it looks clean. Nothing I see in the startup files tells me anything. I have attached a screen grab of the login page to give a visual. Any help someone could provide would be very much appreciated.

In Case anyone is interested, I discovered the cause... a corrupt WPA (Windows Product Activation) registry string. Not exactly sure how that happened but then again, this is a MS product we're talking about .
