svchost.exe is creating problem

hi,
my windows 2000 is almost in hang state
1.I installed MSDE on windows 2000
2.when i restarted CPU becomes 100% busy
3.i uninstalled it.
4.when I restarted CPU is still 100% busy.
when i saw task manager svchost.exe is having more than one instance,one of them usin 89% of CPU

can any body tell me what is this svchost process and ho can i kill it as access is denied message is comming when i attempt to kill it
