windows xp/98 clean install problems

Expand Post »
My PC was really slow so I did a clean XP install, and all was good for a few days. Then it crashed and could not be restored. I tried to install XP again but it didn't work. So I dug up my old 98 and me discs, and they won't get past the format stage. I need help.

Details...

I bought the computer with XP installed
I know the discs are good, i installed xp on other pc's since.
I've tried NTFS and FAT32 formats, slow and quick.

When Setup finishes copying the files, the computer says,

'Setup cannot set the required Windows XP configuration information. This indicates an internal Setup error.'
