Video Codec disables after re-booting

Expand Post »
I'm frustrated...
Upon trying to play DVDs in Windows Media Player 10, I got no video, only sound. So I installed the video codec I thought was missing. This worked well until I turned the computer off. When re-starting, the video image disappeared again.

I've found I have to uninstall and reinstall the codec or install a new brand of video codec to get it to work, but again, it works only for 1 session until I turn the computer off.

I de-selected the video mixing renderer, which allows me to view *.mpeg and *.mva files just fine (even after re-booting), but *.vob and *.avi files are not working for me. (And, no, i'm not trying to watch pirated movies).

if anybody could provide insight on how to resolve this, I'd be really thankful.

Cheers.
