Windows xp wont start - Please help!!!

Expand Post »
Recently I shut off my computer without letting it shutudown. I know you shouldn't do it but when I have in the past nothing bad has happened. This time I did it but while a program was still running. Now my computer wont start up! I can get to the menu screen where it asks if I want to start in normal mode or safe mode and so on. Whichever option I choose, and I have tried all, will get up to the loading screen for windows to start and freeze. I contacted a Dell support person but he told my my motherboard was damaged and I would have to buy new things. I really don't want to lose any of my memory and I dont want to have to pay hundreds of dollars for a stupid mistake. If theres anything anyone can do PLEASE HELP.
