Windows XP Home refusing to boot

Expand Post »
Hello all, this morning I ran into a problem with my OS, when my little sister tried to get on she found a blue screen with an error message saying a file was missing, without memorizing the filename she rebooted the computer. Now whenever the computer is booted it goes through the little manufacturer bit (In this case Compaq) and then the screen goes blank, where the Windows XP bootup screen is supossed to be. Is there any hope for a fix without reformating? If you need information I will provide as much as I can using this Linux Live CD.

Thanks in advance,
Robert.

P.S: Would this be better placed in the "Troubleshooting Dead PCs" section?
