How do you stop messenger service popups?

Expand Post »
Hi guys,
I am having a problem with messenger service popups. I have resolved it once before, but I have just formated and reinstalled windows XP, and now I cannot remember how you stop these popups!
Any help would be appreciated as I cannot let me son on the net until these popups stop.

  • Under Control Panel, select Administrative Tools.
  • Select Services.
  • Double-click on Messenger.
  • In the Messenger Properties window, select Stop, then choose Disable as the Startup Type.
  • Click OK.

Another way to close the door on some of the vunerabilities used is by running Shoot the Messenger, DCOMbobulator, and UnPlug n' Pray from Gibson Research (about mid-page). In your case, Shoot the Messenger is the most important, but I would run all three.
