Freeze when trying to play video files

Hi all,
I have a computer that using Windows XP with drivers installed for my hardwares . When i try to play any video files with any media softwares ( i tried with windows media and winamp ) , my computer gets freeze . I have to shut it off by useing Task manager Ctrl+Alt+DEL ... i don't know what the hell is happening to my computer . Does any one have any solutions ? (I also tried to install the codecs on my computer)

If you install the wrong codecs...some funky things can happen.

I would try uninstalling the codecs and seeing if I could play a video I know to be safe...if that doesn't work, and you have your Windows XP CD...try uninstalling and reinstalling the media player.

If that still doesn't work...you might have a hardware issue.
