xp stops at black screen

Expand Post »
Hey.

Last night, I found that I had 2 partitions on my HDD (NEC Versa E2000 laptop). One was about 4gb in FAT and hidden, the other my main one of about 34GB in NTFS, so i formated the 4gb partition into NTFS and went to merge it with the big one. when the merging was complete, the computer wouldn't start up, it just gets to the black screen and hangs there.

I guess the smaller partition had my windows boot files or something. I was wondering how do I repair the big partition so windows would boot again? Without formating the drive.

Hope someone can help.
