I got a virus on my laptop which made it slower gradually up to the point it would only start in safe mode and would not detect my cd-rom drive. I managed to format it but can not reinstall windows xp as it still does not recognise the cd-rom drive. After installing the start up disks it always asks insert cd-rom but cant it wont even open now! any ideas?
you may well be right. if you've formatted then it all comes down to hardware and BIOS. Download a windows system setup floppy from http://freepctech.com/pc/002/files010.shtml and see what you can do.
