blank screen windows xp

Expand Post »
when I try to boot, the sounds and lights come on, but the screen remains blank. Same thing happens if I use another known working hard drive. I can't even get in to check the BIOS etc using F2.

I've been working with computers for some years and have never encountered this problem before.

I'd appreciate some ideas and help.

Thanks,
gaj
