Creative Audigy 'No Audio Device' message on Win XP SP2

Expand Post »
Got a Dell 8200 Dimension. Recently upgraded to win XP SP2. Turtle beach sound card refused to work and the card was discontinued. Downloaded every TB driver I could get my hands on...no joy.
Put in an 'upgrade' to an Audigy SE card. Same problem - Control panel says, "No Audio Device".
Went to the Dell site - downloaded the BIOS specifically designated by Dell as an Audigy BOIS upgrade - still no joy.
Have set every automatic setting in Win XP - autostart everything related to sound - nada, zippo, nothing.

(What's really infuriating is that Dell refuses any assistance because the card did not come with the machine even though I could download the Audigy BIOS from their website...)

When I open the hardware tab and specifically select the Audigy sound card, XP says: "The device is working properly". The driver is installed and is also 'working properly' - still no sound.

Has anyone else had and successfully addressed this problem? I'm about to chuck the whole box into the Chicago River...
