Re: CPU usage 100%!!!

I have a similar problem, im using windows 2000 pro with a 700mhz cpu and 256 mbs of ram and a 128 MB nvidia geforce mx4000 im pretty sure i have all the latest drivers. and after about 10-20 mins. online my svchost pegs out and never goes down, and my internet activity goes for about 3-5 mins just fine then no activity for 30-60 seconds in a non stop repetitive cycle untill i restart (i always have to impropely shut down when it happens my system hangs when i try to properly restart) i had almost exactly the same problem with xp which is why i switched to 2000. it never happens when im offline so i figured it was spyware or a virus connecting to host and executing it. i have a antivirus\firewall i got recomended from microsoft.com its called ez trust ez armor i think. and fully upgraded spybot search and destroy and adaware. all they found was something called agobot which i figured was the problem. I had to registery edit to get it off and deleted all its files, but i still have the same problem...plz help ive been plagued with this problem forever.

ps. someone suggest a good free firewall cos the one i have only deteced the very most basic activities such as IE. and my earthlink connection along with other things as equally obvious.

Re: CPU usage 100%!!!

I just installed the program weather watcher. Somehow it always makes my CPU use 100% (as I see it in Task Manager), as long as it is running. I don't know why, I have try to close everything and just leave it running in tray, weather data is updated hourly, there shouldn't be anything running all the time. I guess I don't really need to know how it makes CPU run at 100%, I just want to know is it okay to leave it like that ? If not, is there anything I can do about it? I like the program alot tho but...

IE with some java / activex / flash has been known to make a pc use 100% of its proc power
i also faced the same problem with ie. i have to close the ie when it happened.

as i know, for pc, nowadays the speed of motherboard is slower. when you desige the cooling system, we do not need to consider the 100% usage of cpu. so leave it as 100% usage is not a good idea.
