USB not recognized

I'm having a problem...I have a cable modem (roadrunner) and running with XP. Occasionally while I'm in IE the error message "USB not recognized" will come up and I'm not able to connect to the internet. When I restart my machine, I can get on fine. Any suggestions???

Have you updated the drivers on your USB cable modem? Have you upgraded the BIOS on your system?

What type of computer is this?

Have you updated Windows? There are a couple of Windows updates which impact on USB functions.
