Check-Up: Random Shut-Offs

Expand Post »
Hey guys! In the past week, my PC has randomly shut off a few times, along with not being able to shut off once (stuck in the "signing off" process). So far Norton hasn't picked up anything, and my definitions are up to date. Anyways, here's the HijackThis log file. I'd much appreciate any help, since I'm no techie lol.

Log's clean. Suggest overheating, or dodgy PSU as first items to check.

Re: Check-Up: Random Shut-Offs

I think there are many programs running in the background. There aren't needed upon starting your windows. You can run all the programs manually. Try to disable some of them in the System Configuration Utility.

Start-Run-then type "msconfig". Uncheck all items found in the "Startup" except from your firewall and antivirus programs.

Clean all fans inside the cpu unit especially the processor fan and its heatsink. Additional case fan is also needed to dissipate heat and retain the room temperature inside the cpu unit.

If you have a spare power supply, try to swap it into your system so that you can determine if your power supply is not functioning very well.

Re: Check-Up: Random Shut-Offs

Thanks fren. The shut-offs are still happening, and what's worse is that my computer cannot use any of the restore points (it says, after going through the motions and restarting, that is could not bring my PC back to any of the restore points).

I should also mention 2 things: I'm using a laptop, and I'm a little worried about messing with things I'm not that familiar with, i.e. registry, SCU, etc. Besides, once I get back to school, the university makes you install a CD that takes control of your PC and re-installs all their crap again.

Here's another log I ran right after start-up. It looks about the same to me:
