My DVD R/W drive reads empty CDs and DVDs as zero free space but will burn them and then show the used space correctly.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled Nero 7, no change.

Obviously, this doesn't stop me using the drive but I'm puzzled as to why this is happening as it used to show the free space on the empty media.

Does anyone have any ideas?

On my PC it says 0 too. I think thats because on a standard XP install (some buring studios change it) XP cant burn DVDs, only CDs

No, I can burn DVDs

maybe because when you get them they arent formatted?

Its not a problem but its common to all. If you insert any blank media then it shows zero free space.

My initial statement was incorrect, on my burner blank CD's show as 702 Mb but blank DVD's as zero free space

Try Firmware update for your DVD R/W from its Manufacturer site may it helps.

mine reads blank dvd as zero space free ,so i wouldn't worry about it .
