moved NTLDR

i accidently moved the NTLDR file from C:\ to C:\NewFolder
i realized my mistake when i restarted my comp.
its showing error.. NTLDR missing :(

its an IBM desktop/ win xp sp2. its the college desktop.
i have done the blunder n i want to fix it by myself.
i think it can be fixed by using repair from win xp cd. but i dont have one.

i am able to boot using a DOS bootable floppy.
but m not able to move the file using DOS commands.
how can i move back the NTLDR file using floppy,
when know the file is there only, in some other directory..

plz help.

Because DOS doesnt do NTFS. XP is NT based not DOS based.

You need an XP CD really

I've heard the newest Knoppix liveCD lets you write to NTFS partitions. Haven't tried myself, but it could help in your case.

I actually tried, out of curiosity, and it does work. You just need to give a permission before you're able to write to the drive, but it amounts to a couple of clicks. I copied ntldr from one of my NTFS drives to the other, no apparent problem. Feel free to try!

Be wary of NTFS R/W support. Its beta and if there are any filesystem inconsistencies it has a tendancy to trash the whole NTFS partition

If you have remove NTLDR just stick in the XP CD and hit "R" to get into recovery mode when it asks then you can use the fixmbr and fixboot commands
