Screen resolution stuck on 640x480

Turned on my computer to find my computer screen tiny and all my icons jammed up taking up the entire screen. Computer is telling me it has found new hardware......a video controller. I installed no such thing. I tried to raise the screen res under properties/settings but i can't move the "slider" up past 640x480 or change 16 bit graphics.

I also tried to "roll back" the video driver. The previous Intel driver appeared to come back but nothing changed. Then when I tried to restart, the old "you have new hardware" came up again.

I tried then to uninstall that. Same result as the above paragraph.

Any further suggestions?

Thanks!
