Microsoft office 97! Help!!!!!

I had to rienstall my op system but I did not realize I had lost my case for office 97. now I do not have the code I need to install it all my file I saved on disc's are in office format's (word, excel, ext.) so I can not open them I can not afford to upgrad right now does any one know how I can get my code?

Open Office is free and opens Microsoft Office documents very well, download and install that. I use it myself.

my office 97 is acting up it is not printing on command and shutting down by itself
if i resinstall from the original start up disk will i loose all my fi;es

If you reinstall from the disk, then you will get an option to remove, repair or reinstall. Your files will not be affected with any of these choices. I would try to repair first, then reinstall and as a last resort remove & reinstall.
