I've always had success with Xilisoft Video Converter! It's the best program for audio/video conversion. However it is not free but I think you can try it before you buy.

If you want freeware apps...look for Super Video Converter

Or Any Video Converter

Another decent trial application is Total Video Converter

Since I haven't used Any DVD converter I cannot say how long it will take but I have converted videos like 1GB into different formats using xilisoft and it didn't take as long as you are describing.

maybe a side effect of using a freeware app. However it does matter a lot on your computer specifications. If you got a older processor with low RAM this could happen.
How much ram do you have and what type of cpu do you have?

Thats not too bad. Try converting a smaller video file of say around 100mb or so to see how long that takes.

If it still gets stuck than maybe its time to try another program.

Just to make sure the dvd you are trying to convert is it protected? Because protected files might not get converted...

Yes they can take awhile sometimes. Depends on how big but the standard time frame is about 30-45 min Maybe a wee bit longer.

What size system do u use ?? Also what other programs as some are way better. I have a ton i use or have used. I will post aa list of them. Give me a sec.

DVDvideosoft - free video converter + free dvd convert (awesome set of free programs)
imedia (ISkysoft)

Plus mainly when using / selecting a dvd copier use one that has that offer with one that can save in different formats. Thats the ones i have alot of. The converters here though are great. (if you need them )
