Repeated Vista Crashing

Expand Post »
I'm seeing this from the event log:

Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-DistributedCOM
Date: 13/10/2006 13:52:38
Event ID: 10005
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: Thor
Description:
DCOM got error "1058" attempting to start the service WSearch with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{9E175B6D-F52A-11D8-B9A5-505054503030}

And it is causing vista to turn the computer off... like dead off as if I'd unplugged it.

It's happening even when I've disabled the Windows Search service. My patience is reaching it's end and I'd really like to be able to evaluate Vista properly so that I can see if an upgrade will be worthwhile for me.

It should be noted that I am posting this from Vista safe mode with networking so it's definitely a problem with the normal boot.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Pete
