PTR Record Issue...

Expand Post »
Hi...

I'm using mdaemon 10.0.0... version. for smtp relay.

I have problem while relaying mails to aol.com through mifi-microsense.com relay server and it is behind the pix firewall. Error says reverse lookup issue.

How do i confirm this problem, this is due to my PTR Record setup issue or some other issue.

Re: PTR Record Issue...

Whenever you setup a new email server, this tool helps alot: http://www.mxtoolbox.com/diagnostic.aspx. Also, when it comes to reverse dns, your ISP will have to setup the PTR record. I just went through 2 hours of telephone support hell trying to find the right people to talk to at AT&T, and then I had an epiphany. If you do a whois lookup on your email server's internet IP address, you should be able to get the right support info to have the record created. I did, called them up, and a ticket was created in @ 10 minutes. The record was live within 6 hours.

Re: PTR Record Issue...

You may also have to have an SPF record setup with your hosting company. Many email servers are checking for these days and will reject emails from you if you do not have one.
