connecting 2 computers via serial

Expand Post »
I'm having a problem connecting my home computers (Desktop & laptop) via serial cable. I tried everything but both computers are not seeing each other. My desktop runs XP pro and my laptop is an old one and runs win 98. I figured this is the simplist way to share files between the two. Can anyone give me a step by step on how to do this because the infamous Microsoft has made it difficult for me especially when their own software sometimes does jive with itself. thanks cf

Re: connecting 2 computers via serial

check your network devices on both computers... from memory, you need IPX, Netbui, TCP/IP and file/printer sharing enabled on both computers. Connecting different OSs together has always been a bitch with DCC... I recommend you get a cheap usb NIC for the laptop... networking is a site easier and a shitload faster.
